Waterford Surf Life Saving Club
Tramore Beach,Co. Waterford

What is Surf Life Saving?
Surf Life Saving originated in Australia in the early 1900s in response to a large number of drownings at local beaches near Sydney. Surf Life Saving is a new and growing sport here in Ireland; it combines many different sporting disciplines such as swimming, running, kayaking and surfing with life saving skills to create a very exciting and competitive sport. The sport involves the use of many different types of lifesaving crafts and rescue equipment including international skis, rescue boards, can buoys, fins, and flags etc. The Sport of Surf Life Saving is quite distinct in that the disciplines in which people compete are directly related to elements of life saving. It is the only sport in the world that combines both humanitarian goals with elite competition. Waterford Surf Life Saving Club comes under the umbrella of Irish Water Safety and works with Waterford Water Safety to promote the Water Safety message. With an average of up to 14 people drowning every month in Irish waters, we want to help everyone to wise up to Water Safety. Lifeguards could be your lifeline in an emergency, so make sure you and your family swim at a life guarded bench and help Waterford Surf Life Saving Club thrive in such a unique growing sport and at the same time help us, return an important service back to our community.
