Flora & Fauna
- Glimpses of Other Places
Paintings by Patrick Morrison. ³Raised as I was like everyone else on cinema and pop music, painting seems to be a mysterious and fugitive pursuit that took place beyond the periphery of culture. I revel in the fact that in this age of miraculous technological innovation, the painter armed with his paint and brushes, can engage in the same solitary drama, as that engaged in by kindred souls all down the ages and back to the caves.² Garter Lane Arts Centre, O¹Connell Street, Waterford.

THEATRE & OPERA

Theatre & Opera
May 15
Chalk & Cheese
OChalk & Cheese¹' is an everyday tale of paranoia, delusions, hallucinations, psychosis and pure gibberish. Kevin McAleer¹s latest comic creation lives in a world of his own; ordinary events such as a visit to the supermarket, a letter from the postman, a phone call, can be the starting point for strange space voyages into the back of his own head. It's insanity Jim, but not as we know it. ³Dizzying rocket trips of the imagination²' Evening Herald. 8pm, tickets: f15 (f12.50 conc), Friends of Garter Lane f12.50. Garter Lane Arts Centre, O¹Connell Street, Waterford. www.garterlanewaterford.com

May 21 & 22
The Kings Of The Kilburn High Road
It¹s Ireland in the mid 70s, and a group of men leave their homes in Ireland in search of better things across the sea in England, with dreams of making their fortunes and returning home as Kings. Twenty five years later one of the group returns home, but sadly it¹s in a coffin, and the remaining boys are facing up to the reality of their difficult existence. A funny, poignant and crude play with strong language, Jimmy Murphy¹s hard-hitting piece pulls no punches. 8pm, tickets: f12.50 (f10 conc), Friends of Garter Lane f10.
Garter Lane Arts Centre, O¹Connell Street, Waterford.

May 28 & 30
Tom Crean - Artic Explorer
Aidan Dooley tells the heroic tale of Tom Crean, the intrepid, Irish Antarctic explorer and the only man to serve with Scott and Shackleton on
three famous expeditions: Discovery, (1901-1904), Terra Nova (1910-1913) and Endurance (1914-1916). Tom Crean¹s story, a testament of human fortitude against all the elements of Antarctica, is brought to life in this dramatic solo performance. Crean¹s 36 mile, solitary trek to base camp, during the Terra Nova expedition, to rescue his comrades Teddy Evans and William Lashly has been described by Antarctic historians as ³the finest feat of individual heroism from the entire age of exploration². 8pm on May 28; 3pm on May 30, tickets: f12.50 (f10 conc), Friends of Garter Lane f10. Garter Lane Arts
Centre, O¹Connell Street, Waterford.
