Suaimhneas
An exhibition of paintings by Deirdre Walsh. ³My inspiration lies in the harmonious interplay of colour notes in my environment. I wish to convey light and silence. Using paint I try to hold my grip on fleeting moments. An elusive light provides me with occasional glimpses of an underlying mystery in nature. The challenge lies in trying to capture colour notes which are revealed by changing light. As in music these notes must be played harmoniously.² Garter Lane Arts Centre, O¹Connell Street, Waterford.

Theatre & Opera

February 4 & 5
The Rare Oul¹ Times
Set in 1950s Dublin, the action takes place in the back bar of the Bailey Pub, where the audience are eavesdroppers as two of Ireland¹s most volatile drinkers and literary figures, Brendan Behan and Patrick Kavanagh, discuss with great humour their lives, loves successes and failures. The Rare Oul¹ Times allows Behan to be at his most outrageous and Kavanagh to be at his most vitriolic, and as in life the humour, poetry, songs and pints of porter flow as fast as the river Liffey itself. Œexpertly captures a certain magical time in Dublin¹ Irish News. Presented by Nomadic Theatre Co. 8pm, tickets: f12.50/10 (conc.). Friends of Garter Lane: 2 for 1. Booking tel: 051 855038. Garter Lane Arts Centre, O¹Connell Street, Waterford.

Sherlock Holmes
ŠThe Last Act!
In 1916, drawn from Sussex retirement for the funeral of his friend, Dr. Watson, Holmes returns to Baker Street to resolve Œthe last act¹ of his epic career. The play explores the complex terrain of Holmes¹ unique intellect, revealing startling secrets and skeletons, and taking us into the mind of Œthe man, not the thinking machine¹. ŒRoger Llewellyn precisely embodies Sherlock, his bellicose, boozing father & the evil MoriartyŠConan Doyle would have approved.¹ Time Out, London. 8pm, tickets: f12.50/10 (conc.). Friends of Garter Lane: 2 for 1. Booking tel: 051 855038. Garter Lane Arts Centre, O¹Connell Street, Waterford.

ŒThis magnetic revelation of a fascinating character, simply compels a standing ovation¹ Irish Times. 8pm, tickets: f12.50/10 (conc.). Friends of Garter Lane: 2 for 1. Booking tel: 051 855038.
