Faustus
by Steven
Rumbelow. Bruiser Theatre Company. The acclaimed Bruiser Theatre Company
presents ‘Faustus’, an intimate breathtaking and darkly
funny piece of theatre, to brighten up those gloomy Autumn nights!
“What do you really want?” taunts the stranger, wisps
of acrid smoke drifting upward from his nostrils. “I mean, really
want. What is it? I can give you all that and more! But first, you
must do one thing for me..” So, Dr Faustus takes the deal the
apparition offers, and bargains away his soul! This delicious play
of temptation and depravity is a perfect night out. Running Time 60
minutes.

Mary Coughlan, Geraldine Plunkett and Orlaith Rafter (Robin in Fair
City).
Since
its debut in 1997, the show has become a unique international phenomenon,
wowing enthusiastic audiences all over the world. The monologues are
taken from interviews with 2,000 women from all over the world, resulting
in a theatrical experience that is funny, poignant and exhilarating,
but above all, presents a view of the world that is defiantly female.

Way to Heaven
Galloglass
Theatre Company present Way to Heaven by Juan Mayorga translated by
David Johnston. Featuring David Heap - Donal Maher in Fair City.
Based
on a real life incident which took place in a concentration camp during
World War II, Way to Heaven is undeniably relevant and chillingly
resonant in today’s world of embedded war correspondents and
the political spin doctor. An Irish Red Cross volunteer tours the
Jewish “Civilian” camp in Nuremberg to report on the conditions
of the “dwellers”. He finds a flawless, picturesque settlement.
But how this deception, involving hundreds of obedient Jews, is created
and maintained by a determined Nazi Commandant, is the play’s
real and devastating concern.

Stones In His Pockets
Winner
of the Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy, Laurence Olivier Award
for Best New Comedy and the Irish Times/ESB Award for Best Play, Marie
Jones’ sensational play evolves around events that occur when
a major Hollywood film studio descends on a small village in Co. Kerry.
The film’s
demand for extras from the local community is huge, and as the story
unfolds, the lives of two local layabouts Jake and Charlie, and a
host of other extraordinary characters, are brilliantly brought to
life by Hugh Lee and Simon Delaney (star of Bachelor's Walk!). These
two actors play all fifteen parts, from innocent locals to pretentious
film crew.
Stones
in his Pockets has been translated into over sixteen languages, and
has completed a tour of America, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong,
Canada, Argentina, Uruguay, Japan, South Africa and Europe.

COMEDY
Thursday 05 October 2006 @ 8.00pm
Dave McSavage, Aidan Bishop, MC John Caplis.
Fresh
from sellout shows at this years Edinburgh Fringe Festival, David
McSavage, one of Ireland's most regular comedy performers, will bring
his own unique blend of comedy madness to Dolan's Comedy Club on Thursday
Oct 5. Having initially worked as a street performer in Australia
and Scandinavia for eight years, McSavage hit the headlines more than
once and was even arrested in Dublin for 'seeking alms' during a street
performance. However, he's made the most of his tabloid publicity
and is loved and hated in equal measures. A regular on The Late Late
Show McSavage is considered by some of his peers to have balls politically
and also to be an intelligent guitar-playing performer. His style
involves making songs up on the spur of the moment depending on the
environment in which he is located. For example in Temple Bar he once
described an unsuspecting English hen party as "a relay team
of slappers". While some comedy connoisseurs criticise him for
going for the cheap laughs, it can't be denied that McSavage is a
fearless performer who is honestly very funny. McSavage brings his
hilarious madness to Dolan’s Warehouse tonight Support on the
night comes from Aidan Bishop with MC John Caplis.

Pat Shortt You Won't Get Away With That Here
Limerick
comedian returns home with his side splitting, sell out show You Won’t
Get Away With That Here!
It’s
the final night in the hall in Rathmuff before it’s due to be
demolished and the locals decide to show a film. The local characters
turn out in force to bid farewell to the hall, like Patsy the hall
caretaker who patrols the aisle to make sure that there is nothing
dirty going on in the back row; Sheamie, the builder, who comes in
to demolish the place and Marie, the Air Hostess, who lives on in
Sheamie’s dreams as one of his most memorable flights. This
is one of the most daring productions ever staged in the community
hall, but regardless of who you meet they will all tell you the same
thing “ You won’t get away with that here !!“.
Pat Shortt,
a household name in Irish comedy from his days with D’Unbelievables
has gone on to star in the hugely acclaimed, Killinaskully. Not content
with just portraying a number of characters, Pat co-wrote and co-produced
the popular series. Such was it’s success the full series has
been made available to buy on DVD.

Karl Spain
Hosted
By John Henderson with special guest Karl has quickly established
himself as one of Ireland's top comedians, continuing to go from strength
to strength performing all over the world, in London, Edinburgh, Montreal
and Australia. Last year he took off around his homeland to look for
a woman. This search was documented in the hit RTE series "Karl
Spain Wants a Woman". Now he's back and he is looking for an
audience for his brand new live show, "Love... whatever that
means". Karl says: "If the show was to be made into a movie
it would be described as Cyrano de Bergerac with a Wham soundtrack.
But very little from the first album. The show may include bad dancing,
football statistics, and a lot of pop trivia from 1984. The usual
things that we've all used to impress the ladies. Ex-girlfriends will
be allowed in for free but they must bring a picture of the two of
us together and admit that I've touched their bits". "Achingly
funny"-The Sunday Times "the audience were in the palm of
his hand"-The Metro "the future of Irish comedy is in safe
hands"- Hot Press

The Harlem Gospel Choir
"They
are Angels in Harlem" - Bono, U2.
The World
famous Harlem Gospel Choir, who sang I Still Haven¹t Found What
I¹m Looking For with Bono on U2's Rattle and Hum album, are coming
back to Ireland. They return with their thrilling, foot-stomping,
hand clapping show of blues, jazz and gospel spirituals.
Having
performed for Nelson Mandela at the Yankee Stadium, for the Pope in
Central Park, with the Chieftains on their US tour and on U2's Rattle
and Hum album, film and tour, the Harlem Gospel Choir will, once again,
sweep audiences onto their feet at LIT Millennium Theatre with their
magnificent tide of euphoric music.
The world
famous Harlem Gospel Choir was formed in 1988 and made its highly
successful debut at New York's Cotton Club the same year. The Choir
draws its core singers from various black churches in the Harlem community,
who share the common aim of bringing about a better understanding
of African/American culture. Founder member, Allen Bailey has worked
in the entertainment industry for over 30 years. He was promotional
director for major recording artists including Lionel Ritchie and
the Commodores, Prince, Michael Jackson, Mr. T, and Isaac Hayes. He
was chairman for the Martin Luther King Holiday campaign and it was
through this work that the Harlem Gospel Choir was born.
Their
songs of inspiration touch the depths of the soul and raise spirits
to angelic heights. The Choir devotes its time to spreading the joy
of faith throughout the world. This is not to be missed and promises
to sell out quickly.

new productions from Ellen Kent & Opera International arrive at
Limerick on their Premiere tour!
University
Concert Hall is delighted to welcome back Ellen Kent & Opera International
with two brand new, sumptuous, traditionally-staged productions -

Madama
Butterfly - Puccini’s popular tale based on a true life story
which tells of an innocent geisha girl who falls for an American sailor
- is the original inspiration for the popular West End musical Miss
Saigon. Packed with raw emotion and passion, highlights from this
production of the beautiful opera include the melodious Humming Chorus,
the poignant aria One Fine Day and the Love Duet. Madama Butterfly
is set in the most tranquil and stunning Japanese garden boasting
classical features including many varieties of Japanese trees.
