JOE ROONEY
As
the opening act on Pat Shortt's extensive Irish tour, comedian Joe
Rooney received a phenomenal reaction with his hilarious, side-splitting
act. Now the talented performer is set to thrill audiences all around
Ireland once again, as he embarks on his very own Irish Tour.
Some
know him best as Father Damo, the rebel priest who led Father Dougal
astray in Father Ted'. Others may know him better as Fergus Scully,
the bilingual social commentator in TG4's Ri Ra'. Or you may remember
him as one half of wacky double act, the Quacksquad - the comedy duo
that went on to write and perform on Nighthawks', The Late Late Show'
and RTE's first sitcom, Flatheads'.
Whatever
you've seen of Joe Rooney, you ain't seen nothing yet!! Joe Rooney
has spent the last few years honing his stand-up act up and down the
country and across the water, receiving rave reviews at the Edinburgh
Fringe Festival and the Oslo Komedie Kochfest. He has been inducing
laughter and tears for the last 18 months as the opening act on Pat
Shortt's Irish Tour.
Now
Joe Rooney is embarking on his very own Irish Tour, performing in
Vicar Street Dublin on March 13th and in many other venues throughout
Ireland right up until June. During the dangerously funny show, Joe
will entertain you with comical observations on topics that range
from growing up on a farm to parenthood to thongs.
There'll
also be an appearance from Fergus Scully with his alternative and
wildly funny take on Riverdance. Joe's many hilarious comical characters
will make you laugh so hard your jaw aches. And with lots of audience
interaction, nobody is safe from Joe's quick wit, sharp observations
and steely eyes! Joe's tour must end before Joe begins his starring
role in Pat Shortt's new sitcom "Killinascully", so come
along and see this unmissable show before it's too late. As Mrs Doyle
would say, 'Go on, go on, go on, you know you want to!
'Very
physical, totally unorthodox, and with a style so bizarre. Rooney
is a refreshing change.' Brian Boyd, The Sunday Times
'I'm
still laughing at the thought of Fr. Damien (Damo) Lennon, the gurrier
curate who lead Fr. Dougal astray. He was an inspired invention and
was brilliantly played by Joe Rooney.' John Boland, Sunday Independent
'Joe
Rooney is quickly climbing the ladder towards stardom as a stand-up
comedian in his own right his fresh and original act, which included
a clever rap parody on popular nursery rhymes, went down a bomb'.
- Waterford News & Star
'Rooney
is very funny, but it is with his guitar in his hands that he becomes
unmissable, his impressions of seventies rockers singing nursery rhymes
brings tears to the eyes' The Stage
'The
highlight has to be chat show king Scully, brought to life by the
perennially under-used Joe Rooney' The Irish Times
