Frank
Pig Says Hello
City
Theatre, Dublin present Frank Pig Says Hello by Pat McCabe. Directed
By Joe O'Byrne. Staring Donnagh Deeney and Sean Stewart. 'Frank Pig
Says Hello' is the theatre version of the Pat McCabe novel, 'The Butcher
Boy' - about a cheerfully deranged delinquent growing up in rural
1960s Ireland. Originally staged in the 1992 Dublin Theatre Festival,
it was a phenomenal success, and has since been recognised as a hugely
important and influential work of contemporary Irish theatre. A grotesque
mixture of story-telling and role-play, this darkly comic tale has
established itself as one of the most memorable narratives of modern
Irish writing. This is the story of Francie Brady - Piglet - a troubled
boy struggling to come to terms with himself, his family and ultimately,
his entire surroundings. Piglet's childhood is also encumbered by
an embittered, alcoholic father, and a manically depressed mother.
So with his father in and out of the pub, and his mother in and out
for treatment, Piglet is forced to look elsewhere for human nourishment.
Shunned by the local townspeople, he struggles with his sense of loss
and pain as his fantasies become ever more grotesque and his behaviour
more and more threatening.

DON PASQUALE
DON PASQUALE
by Donizetti. Directed by Opera Ireland’s Artistic Director,
Dieter Kaegi, Donizetti’s Don Pasquale is a classic, comic opera,
deeply grounded in characters of the commedia dell’arte.
This
late comic masterpiece is one of the finest operas in Donizetti’s
output of some 65 lyric stage works. The lively plot is a typical
opera buffa tale of elderly amatory foolishness being thwarted by
young lovers. It is full of complications, serious and comic, which
are finally straightened out to the satisfaction of all concerned.
But what raises Don Pasquale above the comic opera norm is the originality
and distinction of the music.
There
are delightful arias and duets for the feisty soprano heroine Norina
and her romantic tenor suitor Ernesto as well as comic duets for soprano
and baritone and, most notably, the famous patter duet for the two
baritones, old Don Pasquale and his friend Dr Malatesta.

Now Showing
The Moon
Chronicles by Suzanne Fox
Suzanne’s
work examines the complexities and conflicts of the human spirit,
the power of the mind and the struggle to achieve higher consciousness.
She deals with the ordinary and the drama that surrounds it. Aspects
of power, weakness, violence, fear and submission are all investigated.
It is not narrative but aims to be intellectually fluid allowing the
viewer to explore many avenues before arriving at a conclusion. Suzanne
utilizes humble, organic and industrial materials to create a visualization
of vulnerability, endurance and metamorphosis.
In her
paintings Suzanne looks to nature and in particular the ancient standing
stones we see throughout the world. To her these stones are potent
symbols of endurance and resilience. They are worn and ever changing
and it is this timeless presence, this sense of survival that her
work is about. The artist deals with the obscure and almost hidden
aspects of life, the secretive side, a side that is difficult to interpret.
We would
love you have your company at our exhibition openings so feel free
to come along, meet the artist and view the art work on display while
enjoying a glass of wine.
If you
are unable to attend an opening, exhibitions can be viewed during
opening hours Monday to Friday 9am - 5.30pm and on show evenings
