Catalpa
By Donal O' Kelly. The second of the plays by Donal O' Kelly, Catalpa
is a story in the great epic tradition of Moby Dick and Gone With
The Wind - with a passing glance at The Great Escape. From New Bedford,
USA to Fremantle, Australia, across the high seas on the whaling ship
Catalpa. Based on the true story of the daring rescue of six Irish
prisoners in 1875. Catalpa is about heroes and visionaries, political
intrigue and personal loyalty, with hot romance and battles at sea.
An epic adventure story that challenges the nature of heroism. Lyrical
and passionate, satirical and very funny.

The Sanctuary Lamp
Galloglass Theatre Company presents. Starring Frank Kelly of Father
Ted fame. One of the most powerful plays, that when first staged in
1926, it provoked a vocal reaction not seen since the staging of The
Playboy and The Western World. Three lost and damaged people occupy
a city church for a night. Harry, a former circus strongman; Francisco,
a juggler and Harry’s best friend; and Maudie, a sixteen years
old waif. Betrayed by his best friend, and his wife, and grieving
over the death of his daughter, Harry seeks to assuage his pain, his
guilt and his feelings of murderous intent. Despite their desperate
circumstances, their individual stories enthrall, horrify and amuse.
Writer, Tom Murphy, says THE SANCTUARY LAMP 'is the camp-fire in the
distance, the candle in the window and the proof of hope in man.'

A New York Song Book
By Music Theatre Ireland, under the musical direction of David Wray,
this talented trio brings to Ireland a rare opportunity to hear new
songs from New York. Ellen McElroy and Danna Davis, originally a New
Yorker herself, are joined by Kenneth W. Gartman direct from ‘The
Big Apple’.
Fast paced and exhilarating, they present a cabaret of contemporary
songs, many of which have not yet been heard outside the USA. Sometimes
witty, often poignant, at all times on the cutting edge of urban chic,
A NEW YORK SONGBOOK - 'WAY OFF BROADWAY' takes a refreshingly candid
look at relationships (and the lack of them!) in our contemporary
world. You’ll laugh and cry with them, know them by their sincerity,
be empowered by their courage and inspired by their resilience; what
'Sex In The City' did for television in the USA, 'WAY OF BROADWAY'
is doing for live cabaret here in Ireland. This production features
songs from the current Broadway Tony award winning shows “Wicked’
and Avenue Q.

African Reggae legend Lucky Dube
The most successful African reggae artist of all time, Lucky Dube
(pronounced Doobay) has taken his Peter Tosh -influenced music further
than his hero himself managed. Guitarist-vocalist Dube formed his
first group, a mbqanga combo entitled The Sky Way Band, while still
at school. An interest in Rastafarianism complemented a musical predilection
for reggae, although, as a member of the Love Brothers, his first
album betrayed none of these influences. His first hit single, the
'Zulu soul' of 'Baxoleleni', arrived in 1983, from his debut solo
set Lengane Ngeyetha. Several LPs later, and Dupe diversified into
rap for Help My Krap. In 1986 his new band, the Slaves, recorded 'Think
About The Children', and their second album, Slave, sold 300,000 copies.
Two albums in 1989, Together As One and Prisoner, sold heavily, the
latter going double platinum in South Africa in only five days.
