Players Present: Lovers at Versailles, is a comedy-drama from Bernard
Farrell. It tells the story of Stephen, who has just died, leaving
behind three women. His wife, who has always suspected that Stephen
is having an affair; his daughter Isobel, who wishes to take full
advantage of the opportunity, and his other 'spinster' daughter Anna,
who now finally has a second chance at happiness, but is it at too
high a price? Stephen also leaves a legacy of a string of love letters
to a mystery woman. Farrell manages to weave humour and compassion
into contemporary life, which will bring bittersweet laughter and
heartfelt longing in equal measure, ensuring an entertaining evening

GRAVITY AND GRACE

Daghdha

performances, music, storytelling and installations.
An

productions, performances, installations and choreographies from around
the world, Gravity and Grace transforms Daghdha's main space into

An
exciting addition to this year's Gravity and Grace is the premiere
of the "Limerick Trilogy," a new work choreographed by Artistic
Director Michael Klien, which will kick off the festival on the evening
of the 15th of December. "Limerick Trilogy is a recollection
of movements, processes and thoughts uncovered and woven together
at Daghdha Dance over the past two years. It aims to filter and reconfigure
the sediments of everyday life into patterns and movements,"
said Klien. "I am delighted to share this work with the public
as part of Gravity and Grace, an eminent appointment of Daghdha's
season, where we can open up our space and vision to the public."
Also
part of the Gravity and Grace schedule is Mamuska Night. Mamuska Nights
are regularly scheduled evenings of open-mic style performance where
performers and artists share their work in an inviting and friendly
performance atmosphere. The Mamuska approach lends itself well to
the Gravity and Grace programme as a fun evening of variety for seasoned
artists and new-comers alike to enjoy. Mamuska Nights have become
a favourite in Limerick and beyond.

is story telling in the afternoon, with the renowned Eddie Lennihan
appearing on Saturday between 2pm and 5pm and upcoming seanachi Tim

Naked Camera Live
After
a successful stint in Vicar St and Cork's City Limits during the summer,
the Stars of Naked Camera continue to ride the bandwagon (and sure
why not) and return to Vicar St for another stand-up session - due
to popular demand don't you know. Naked Camera is a Candid Camera
type show in which Maeve Higgins, Patrick McDonnell and PJ Gallagher
act the Mick in public for our entertainment. On paper it sounds pretty
terrible, but in reality it is a side-splitting outing, which even
Tom Cruise would chuckle at. In case you don't know, Maeve Higgins
is a regular contributor to the Ray Darcy Show, while Patrick McDonnell
might be better known to you as Eoin McLove. Please note, no water
is sprayed on any unsuspecting members of the public/celebrities.

Kevin "Bloody" Wilson
Disabled
Access: Facilities include hard of hearing induction loops and wheelchair
positions in the auditorium.
Around
200 years ago the English government made the rather baffling decision
to put their criminals on boats and send them to a much nicer place
with infinitely better weather. Several generations later the result
is a nation of people who are blessed with a sense of humour that
is part dry English wit and part naughty convict. It therefore seems
only natural that this environment should spawn the Outback Outlaw
himself - Kevin Bloody Wilson.
20
years and about a billion belly laughs ago, Kevin Bloody Wilson rose
from obscurity in the West Australian mining town of Kalgoorlie to
become one of planet Earth's most loved comedians. These days he's
got more gold and platinum albums than you could poke a boomerang
at and at last count he'd sold over 3 million albums. Not bad for
a convict.
After
performing to over 60,000 people during an all too brief tour of the
UK and Ireland during 2003, Kev’s coming back in October and
November. Kev reckons he’s looking forward to doing some more
shows, saying G'day to a few old fans, making a few new ones, and
finally returning the loaf of bread and the chook that his great great
great grandfather stole back in 1786.
Those
who are familiar with Kevin Bloody Wilson's outrageous stage show
will be pleased to learn that he's coming back to the mother country
armed with lots of new songs as well as a bunch of old crowd faves.
Those who have never seen Kev's show are advised to have a thorough
medical checkup before the performance and to leave their sense of
political correctness at the door. Kevin Bloody Wilson's "20
Years Of Givin' It" UK Tour is on it's way to a venue near you
and due to popular demand Kev will once again be supported by the
exceptionally dynamic, vivacious, and tastefully named Jenny Talia
From Australia.
Fans
will also be pleased to know that Kevin Bloody Wilson music and merchandise
just got a lot easier to get hold of, with Kevin Bloody Wilson and
Both Barrels Music having recently signed to Universal Pictures. Universal
will be licensing, manufacturing, and distributing Kevin Bloody Wilson
product, for the first time making it available at nearly every record
store throughout the UK and the republic of Ireland.
Kevin
Bloody Wilson goes to a place where no other performer dares, a place
where culture and comedy collide.

Cork 2005 European Capital of Culture
The
European Capital of Culture programme succeeds the original European
City of Culture programme, which began in 1985. Both fall under the
remit of the European Union (EU). The old programme officially ends
in 2004 with Cork City becoming the first European Capital of Culture
in 2005.
As
well as recognising a city’s existing cultural excellence, the
programme is designed to encourage cities to develop and innovate
through participation in the cultural arena. It offers opportunities
for social inclusion, business, education and regeneration at every
level; it puts culture at the heart of city life and seeks inspiration
to drive it forward.
