Singing Nina
The Life and Music of Nina Simone
With Karen Underwood and Live Band
‘Singing Nina’ is the fabulous new show brought to you by the Chicago
Jazz Queen, Karen Underwood and her band. Karen brings to you in
narration and song the engrossing life story of the great legend Nina
Simone, from her struggle against racism and exile from her homeland
to her flamboyant and troubled relationships and her poignant later
years. Karen sings all the classic Nina songs, “‘Missippi Goddamn’,
‘Sinnerman’, ‘My Baby’ and ‘I Need a Little Sugar In My Bowl’
supported by a live band of featuring on piano Art O’Laoire, guitar
Eoghan Regan, bass Jerome Rimson and drums Bob Jackson.
Nina Simone the civil rights singer, a lot of us are familiar with,
but Nina poor southern daughter, mother, and lover many of us are less
familiar.

Watergate Productions presents By The Bog Of Cats by Marina Carr, directed by Gerry Cody.
The scorn of Hester Swayne, a woman abandoned once and
discarded later, threatens a whole community as she awaits her mother’s
return to the Bog of Cats: ‘God’s punishing me but I won’t take his
blows lyin’ down’. Forgiveness, vengeance and disparate forces figure
in the tangled history embodied in her own powerful drama as it makes
its way through heartbreak and, occasionally, hilarity, and its secrets
unfold towards its tragic conclusion.

Angola classes with Contramestre Alexandre (ACAD - Brazil). In Brazil
Capoeira was used as a resistance instrument against slavery. Nowadays
it is a way to seek freedom and self-knowledge. It is a fight hidden in
the dance, theatre, song, art and culture. Teens and adults are welcome
to experience this brazilian art, and to get to know its movements,
songs and musical instruments.
