In recent years Kilkenny has seen a great influx in martial arts with games like Thai boxing and aikido being introduced and thought at a very high level. GAELIC GAMES - FOOTBALL, HURLING AND CAMOGIE

GAA is the lifeblood of every person from Kilkenny. There is a very stong hurling tradition in Kilkenny and the Cats are presently the All Ireland Hurling Champions. Nowlan Park is the couty headquarters of the GAA in Kilkenny. It coordinates the activities of over 50 clubs in the region. James Stephens Park, Dicksboro and O'Loughlin Gaels are the three city grounds. James Stephens Club have many pitches where hurling, football, handball, camogie and Gaelic Football are played and at O'Louglin Gaels there is a leisure centre.
