It’s why (blue) birds sing
A new installation by Finola Jones especially designed for the Butler
Gallery. This work represents another stage in Jones’ ongoing
investigations into the structures of audiovisual installation,
audience engagement strategies and emotional manipulation. Opening
Hours: 10.30am – 12.45pm & 2pm-5pm. Gallery closed over Christmas and

Silver Connections
Celebrating the work of two generations of applied artists, with over
100 years experience between them. The McCrory’s of Northern Ireland
have forefronted the current direction of the applied arts and
contemporary silversmithing in Ireland and the UK.

Rhyme Rag
Rhyme Rag, a poetry publication featuring the work of young Kilkenny
writers.This years Rhyme Rag will take the form of a comic book,
containing a poem per page. The illustration of the comic will be
undertaken by artist Ale Mercado. Ale’s original illustrations, which
will be based on each poem, will also be printed up in large format
for an exhibition at No. 72, John Street and there will also be a
limited edition of the prints available.

The Kings of the Kilburn High Road
By Jimmy Murphy. In the mid 1970s, a group of young men left their
homes in the West of Ireland, took the boat out of Dublin Bay and
sailed across the sea to England in the hope of making their fortunes
and returning home. Twenty five years later only one, Jackie Flavin,
makes it home - but does so in a coffin. The play takes place on the
day that the winners and losers of the group meet up to drink to
Flavin’s memory and looks at their lives, lost dreams and their place

Selected Prints on Fabric
World-renowned artist Louise Bourgeois is in her 95th year and is
still constantly at work. Masterful in many mediums such as
sculpture, drawing and print-making, Bourgeois has created some of
the most powerful and memorable work of our time in a career that has
spanned over 60 years. Exhibiting since 1949, major recognition came
later in her life at the age of 72, with her first retrospective at
the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1982. Butler Gallery, The

better times to come. The themes stress the shortness of life, the
human need to be remembered and how nature gives us courage in
