Mundy
Irish singer/songwriter Mundy is one of a number of artists to
successfully make the transition from street busking in Dublin to
international stardom during the '90s, a prestigious list that includes
the Frames, the Hothouse Flowers, and, more recently, Paddy Casey and
Rodrigo y Gabriela. Mundy's mainly acoustic, folk-based pop/rock has
been compared to Damien Rice and Josh Ritter; however, his style is
more upbeat and celebratory than either, and his jangle pop influence
and tendency to experiment with unconventional sonic textures and beats
(his debut album was overseen by acclaimed indie electronic producer
Youth) further distinguishes him, a tendency that partly led to the
breakdown of his relationship with his pop radio-oriented label.
Mundy was born Edmund Enright in the rural town of Birr,
County Offaly, in 1976. At age 18, Mundy moved to Dublin and began
performing on infamous busker haven Grafton Street, and at open-mike
nights at the nearby International Bar. Less than two years later,
Mundy signed with Sony subsidiary Epic Records, and released his debut
single, "To You I Bestow," on New Year's Day 1996. The presence of
Youth, founding bassist with post-punk pioneers Killing Joke, is
notable in the Smiths-like bounce of the single, and he was an equally
important influence upon the album that followed, the appropriately
titled Jelly Legs. Shortly before the album was released in October
1996, "To You I Bestow" was licensed for inclusion on the soundtrack
for Baz Luhrmann's Shakespeare adaptation Romeo + Juliet, alongside
tracks by Radiohead and Garbage. The soundtrack went on to sell 11
million copies; Jelly Legs sold a respectable 50,000 worldwide.

David O'Doherty
David O’Doherty is the stage name of David O’Doherty: comedian,
flanneur and 1990 East Leinster under 14 triple jump bronze medalist.
He was born in Dublin at the end of 1975. He wanted to become
a professional cyclist, then a professional jazz musician, but an
almost complete lack of talent in these areas meant that he became a
professional telemarketer, ringing up strangers to ask them to rate
things out of ten.
Then in 1998 he did his first open spot at the now defunct
Norseman Comedy Club in Dublin's unfortunate Temple Bar district. In
1999 he travelled to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the first time
and was lucky enough to win the Channel 4 So You Think You're Funny?
competition and with it a huge cardboard cheque with £1500 written on
it. Somebody told him it was legal tender, so he took it into a bank
which made the cashier almost weep with laughter. Seriously, she got
the other people from round the back to come out and laugh at me.
That's the main thing he remembers about that.

The 'LIVE" Last Waltz
“The Last Waltz”, was a live show filmed and directed by Martin
Scorsese which commemorates the history and music of Bob Dylan and ‘The
Band’ and is regarded as the greatest rock and roll concert movie of
all time.
Of course it was the guest list on the night that turned it into the
greatest gig of all time as Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Van
Morrison, Muddy Waters, Dr John, Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Ronnie
Hawkins and a host of others joined The Band on stage.
To mark the 30th anniversary of the movie last year, a collective of
some of Dublin’s most legendary musicians under the name “The Group”,
set about the impossible task of recreating the 2 hour show live in
tribute to the original concert.
After sensationally touring large scale venues and leading theatres
since 2008, and having had two sold out shows at The Olympia Theatre
this year, The Last Waltz Live is back and coming to The Set Theatre,
Kilkenny, for one spectacular night on Sat 18th Feb 2012.
Directed by Dublin sons The Group, this feel good full of love
extravaganza will be a sure fire way to beat the blues this winter.
With a cast and crew of over 30 including a 10 piece band,
full brass section, 13 amazing special guests, and stunning archive
footage on a giant screen, this spectacular live re-enactment of the
‘The Last Waltz’ is a must for all who love their music.
