THEATRE & OPERA
February 6
The Turn Of The Shrew
OPERA THEATRE COMPANY presents Britten’s compelling adaptation
of Henry James’ ghostly tale. Set in a remote Victorian estate,
The Turn of the Screw explores themes of innocence and corruption
through the eyes of a naïve young governess. One of Britten’s
most remarkable and beautiful scores, the haunting, evocative music
reflects the growing tension in the isolated household. Director
Helen Eastman and designer Michael Vale (Tosca ENO, Carmen Glyndebourne)
brilliantly re-create the gothic atmosphere and teasing ambiguity
of opera’s greatest ghost story. The strong cast of singers
includes Virginia Kerr, Sylvia O’Brien, Catherine Hegarty
and Rebekah Coffey. Celso Antunes (Artistic Director of the National
Chamber Choir) conducts a thirteen piece orchestra. The Turn of
the Screw is credited as Britten’s greatest creation, and
this innovative production guarantees to provide an unforgettable
emotional and musical experience.8pm. Tickets: €18/15(€12
students). Booking on 056 7761674. Watergate Theatre.
