Three sculptors from Spain (Saturio Alonso), Ireland (Alan Counihan) and England (Derek Whitticase) use the near disappearance of a tree species as an opportunity to engage in a reflection about death, space, myth, topography and ecology. Four Hands
Bill Viola is one of the world’s leading exponents of video art. In his work Four Hands, (2001), exhibited in the tranquil surroundings of St John’s Priory, he depicts four sets of hands – those of a young boy, two middle-aged people and an elderly woman – run through a gamut of gestures; some are familiar and others rhetorical, some are associated with prayer or supplication, while others resemble Hindu and Buddhist mudras. The Light Fantastic: Irish Stained Glass Art

A Life of Colour: John ffrench, Irish Ceramic Artist, A Retrospective Exhibition 1951-2007
The Crafts Council of Ireland honours the great pioneer of Irish contemporary ceramics. This first ever lifetime-achievement, solo exhibition traces a remarkable career that has lasted over half a century. Open: Mon-Sat 10am-6pm; Sun 11am-6pm. National Craft Gallery, Castle Yard.

This Dancing Life
World Premiere. A celebration of dance and dancers, a marathon installation in non-theatrical time and space, breaking down the distinction between dance as way of life, and as performance. Structured like a massive orchestral work with a cast of 20 dancers and tow musicians and lasting 4hours, the audience is free to come and go throughout the event. 6.30pm. Tickets: f12/10.
