The Sunbeam Girls


Cork Opera House and Stage Centre present The Sunbeam Girls Directed by: Marion Wyatt. Seven Women. Three Generations. One Secret. The Sunbeam Girls is a celebration of women, by women, for all of us.

Set during the 1950’s and 1960’s, the play follows the lives of a group of Cork women who worked in the Sunbeam Factory, and lived in the north side of Cork City and surrounding areas. As work is done, the women sing, laugh and cry their way through the ups and downs of their daily lives.

The Sunbeam Girls will strike a chord of recognition in members of the audience and have them rolling in the aisles with laughter one moment and wiping away a tear the next.

Puccini’s Tosca features magnificent sets designed by Vyacheslav Okunev the celebrated designer for the Malyy Theatre and the Kirov in St Petersburg. Love, torture and treachery is set against the backdrop of Rome at its bloodiest, with the famous arias “Vissi d’Arte” and “E Lucevan le Stelle”. With two of the best roles for tenor and soprano, plus a truly blood curdling villain for the baritone this production features a large cast and full orchestra with a children’s choir within a specially devised cathedral setting in Act 1.
