Medeia
Corcadorca, famed for staging spectacular theatre in unusual locations, this year turns its attention to another great classic, but with a twist.
medEia, written in 1998 by Oscar van Woensel is a modern and unconventional retelling of the Greek tragedy of Medea.
The poetic language of the text is interlaced with images and the pop lyrics of groups such as The Beatles, Joy Division and Madonna.
For medEia, Corcadorca invites its audience to the top floor of Cork County Hall, to The Vertigo Suite. This glass pavilion, 17 storeys up and with panoramic views of the city, will offer a unique setting for the staging of this innovative production.
For the past five years, Corcadorca's shows for the Midsummer Festival have sold out, and have twice been nominated for Best Production in the Irish Times Theatre Awards. (Woyzeck 2007, The Merchant of Venice 2005).
