A, B, C Behind The Scenes
The project A, B, C Behind the Scenes by the artist Gabriel Lester
consists of different spatial installations around the entrance area
of the Lewis Glucksman Gallery. For this project, Lester uses locations
in and around the gallery which are not designed first and foremost
for exhibitions and makes the side-character of the areas the subject
of the installation. As the title suggests, Lester creates the sense
of being backstage on a theatre or film set but the narrative connection
between the three parts of the installation is enigmatic. Glucksman
Gallery, UCC, Cork.

Paula Rego: Graphic Work from the Jane Eyre and Children¹s Crusade
series
According to writer Marina Warner ³Girlhood and its appetites
have inspired Paula Rego's picture making for over 30 years².
Rego is a painter of stories, her characters enact a variety of roles
and depict disquieting tensions below the surface. Her images often
hint at the darker side of childhood and the imagination, making the
exhibition a fascinating counterpoint to ŒThrough the Looking
Glass¹. Glucksman Gallery, UCC, Cork.

Through The Looking Glass:
Childhood in Contemporary Photography
The artists in ŒThrough the Looking Glass¹ create pictures

of the images in this exhibition are straight photographs, others
have been digitally manipulated. Many of the artists refer to great
painters of the past Botticelli, Holbein and Bronzino
reminding us that photographs are always constructed and often blur
the boundaries between what is real and what is not. Glucksman Gallery,

from the forearms inserted with canal needle in each arm. The audience

Basil Blackshaw
Basil Blackshaw, one of Ireland¹s most highly acclaimed painters,
will exhibit at the Fenton Gallery this autumn. This will be the seventy
three year old artists¹ first exhibition since his show at the
Ulster Museum in 2002. Blackshaw has worked exclusively towards this
show over the past 20 months creating a dramatic collection of 15
new paintings. These continue the changing direction which his work
has been taking over the past decade, a different sense of awareness,
perhaps a more existential position. There is an immediate sense of
brave, major work from these paintings, which are imbued with the
expressionism and feeling associated with Blackshaw¹s greatest
work. This exhibition represents the most exciting body of new work
to be exhibited by Blackshaw in a decade. Fenton Gallery, Wandesford
Quay.
