James Barry
James Barry (1741-1806) is perhaps the most significant artist to
have been born and trained in Cork. Much of his works reflect the
history and politics of his own times, as well as the classical art
of Greece and Rome. The strong moral and social content in his paintings
show him to be an early Neo-Classicist, yet his life was thwarted
by a strong romantic temperament, an argumentative nature and financial
misfortune. The James Barry Exhibition will present an unequalled
opportunity to re-examine Barry's contribution to both the history
of art and the history of his own times, with works on loan from key
collections in Ireland, Europe and North America, as well as presenting
recently rediscovered paintings. The exhibition will conclude with
an international academic conference which will coincide with the
bicentenary of Barry's death. Crawford Art Gallery, Emmet Place.

PUBLIFE AMMENDED LISTING
Costigans
11 Washington St. West,
4273350
An institution with Corkonians; Costigans is a lively bar with a traditional
and cozy feel with one added modernization that most Irish pubs cannot
do without these days - a brand new open-air courtyard. With plenty
of seating, and beautifully constructed the courtyard lies within
the confines of Costigans allowing shelter & privacy. Great for
congregating under the stars whilst serving the smokers and those
who wish to socialize there as well. Within easy reach from any part
of the city and known for its good old fashion craic, Costigans is
a hub of Cork nightlife. Live music each Wednesday night and the new
courtyard is so nice you won't want to leave.
