Grzegorz Laskowski
Although painting almost entirely with his fingers, this Poland-based
artist has a surprisingly classical style, reminiscent of the old
Dutch Masters. Although this is his first Irish exhibition he is
represented in galleries and collections in Germany, Holland, Finland
and the U.K., as well as all the major cities of his native country,
where he still lives and works. Shaw Gallery, Washington Street.

Ellis Island Portraits
An exhibition of portrait photographs taken by Augustus F. Sherman
when he worked on Ellis Island from 1905 - 1920 as chief clerk.
Entirely self-taught as a photographer, Sherman had an abiding
passion for human drama, a keen eye for non-Western postures,
gestures, and dress, and the ability to pose his sitters without
losing sight of their inner natures and difficult circumstances. Cork

David Hockney’s Fairy Tales
An exhibition of etchings by David Hockney, illustrating six fairy
tales from the Brothers Grimm. Hockney has given each fairy tale his
own interpretation. Rather than illustrating the stories literally,
he has chosen vivid images to encapsulate a mood or detail. Some of
the tales are familiar, like Rapunzel and Rumpelstilzchen; others,
such as Old Rinkrank, Fundevogel and the Little Sea Hare are little

The Lieutenant of Inishmore
A sensational over the top black comedy set on an island of the West
Coast of Ireland. Written by the author of the worldwide smash hit,
‘The Beauty Queen of Leenane’ Martin McDonagh’s ‘Lieutenant of
Inishmore’ caused a storm in London’s West End; Conquered audiences
on Broadway and this, the first irish professional production, was a
huge hit on its first outing in 2006. ‘Imagine the dead parrot sketch

The Field

The Sunbeam Girls
Seven Women. Three Generations. One Secret. The Sunbeam Girls is a
celebration of women, by women, for all of us. Set during the 1950’s
and 1960’s, the play follows the lives of a group of Cork women who
worked in the Sunbeam Factory, and lived in the north side of Cork
City and surrounding areas. As work is done, the women sing, laugh
and cry their way through the ups and downs of their daily lives. The
Sunbeam Girls will strike a chord of recognition in members of the
audience and have them rolling in the aisles with laughter one moment

Eugene Ionesco’s first play, The Bald Soprano, was a result of his
attempts to learn English from a book. Ionesco learned not just

In its first outing of the new year, the RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet brings
an essential selection of favourite serenades, dances and lullabies
