Matisse: Drawing with Scissors
Late works 1950 - 54. The French painter, sculptor and designer, Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was one of the 20th century’s most influential artists. His vibrant works are celebrated for their extraordinary richness and luminosity of colour. Matisse: Drawing with Scissors, features thirty five lithographic prints of the famous cut-outs, produced in the last four years of his life, when the artist was confined to his bed. It includes many of his iconic images, such as The Snail and the Blue Nudes.

The exhibition includes artistic work from the 1960s to the present day by more than 30 international artists. It examines different aspects of work such as globalisation, gender relations, migration, industrial action and working conditions. Whipping The Herring: Survival & Celebration in 19th Century Irish Art
Whipping the Herring examines everyday life in nineteenth century
Ireland, with particular focus on the depiction of the less well-off,
for whom life was often a struggle for survival. The exhibition will

Belfast based artist, Raymond Watson exhibits a collection of
sculpture, painting and print works exploring the individual human
experience of life in The Maze Prison where political prisoners were
held. His work portrays important icons and events that constituted
the daily routine of prison life; including a unique image portraying
how prisoners communicated using a plastic knife and a button.Sirius

August 4 to 7
Mitchelstown Music and Arts Festival
This year’s festival, running across the August Bank Holiday weekend,
will take place at the New Square in Mitchelstown, which can hold up
to 10,000 people. There is a great mix of music on the programme for
all, with performancers set from The Proclaimers, Rosey, Sultans of
Ping, Cork's finest Frank and Walters, Hybrasil, The Cahlets and many
more. The best thing about this festival is that ALL OF THE GIGS ARE
FREE! Other events over the weekend will include Cork Rocks “off-
stage” gigs in smaller venues all over the town. There will also be
an art exhibition including art from Musician and Artist Roesy. There
