Exhibition
A new art gallery, The Front Room Art Gallery has opened in Monkstown, showcasing internationally acclaimed artists, some for the first time, in Cork.
The current exhibition includes a collection of recent paintings by Felim Egan, Michael Flaherty, John Jermyn, Neal Greig, Ian Humphreys, Eileen Ferguson, Ludmilla Korol, John Simpson, Roser Perez, Brigid Shelly and sculpture by Mick Wilkins.
The Gallery shall also hold exhibitions featuring the works of local artists and alternative cultural events throughout the year.
Tuesday to Saturday 11.00am – 6.00pm. Sunday 11.00am – 3.00pm.

The Arcadian Landscapes of Nathaniel Grogan and John Butts
In the eighteenth century there was a thriving art scene in Cork, led by painters such as John Butts, James Barry and Nathaniel Grogan. Butts and Grogan both lived and worked in the city and their paintings are a wonderful record of fairs and festivals, architecture and social life. Step back into the world of eighteenth century Cork at this wonderful exhibition at the Crawford Art Gallery, that brings together work by Grogan and Butts for the first time in many years.

Father Browne Titanic Exhibition
A special exhibition at Cobh Heritage Centre commemorates Cork-born Fr. Frank Browne who travelled on the ill-fated Titanic from Southampton to Queenstown (Cobh). Frank Browne was a keen photographer and recorded many images of the new ship. He was one of seven passengers who left the Titanic when she called to Queenstown on 11 April 1912 to collect 123 people from the busy emigrant port. On 15 April the Titanic sank with the loss of over 1,500 lives.

Art and Patronage in 18th Century Cork
The Cooper Penrose Collection. This collection of 18th century Irish
portraits, landscape paintings, furniture and fine art objects will be
placed on permanent exhibition in two 18th century rooms, on the first
floor of the Gallery.

Gallery Tours
The Crawford Gallery is offering free guided tours of its temporary
exhibitions and permanent collection on Thursday evenings at 6.30pm
and Saturdays at 2.30pm. Meeting point at the gallery bookshop by the
entrance.
As part of Bealtaine, a nationwide celebration of creativity in older
age, each week, Crawford's experienced guide Eilis Ni Longaigh and
artist Julie Forrester will examine key works of art, creating entry
points for participants. The sessions take place every Tuesday for
the month of May from 2- 4 pm; the meeting point is the gallery
foyer, by the bookshop. Places are limited and pre-booking is
essential. A contribution of eu3 per participant for the tea/scone is
requested Crawford Art Gallery, Emmet Place.

'What We Call a Cork Story'
'What we call... a Cork story' is a sound/video installation based on
the recorings of stories of growing up around Shandon in the 1930's and
40's. Irreversible change, ageing, loss, happiness and life cycles are
the pervading themes of this installation which invites Cork people to
visit a forgotten past in an often-overlooked landmark. Open 9am-5pm,

95ft mural at Cork's Mutton Lane
Anthony Ruby was born in Cork City, Ireland in 1977. He studied Fine
Art at the Crawford College of Art and Design (Cork) and completed his
BA in 1999.
He is a figurative painter. His influences include painters such as
Otto Dix and Max Beckmann, Goya and the Mexican muralists Diego Rivera
and Jose Clement Orozco.
He has exhibited in various venues in Ireland. His work hangs in
various private collections and in the permanent collections of UCC,
CIT and Cork County Council. You can check his website below, as new
works are frequently added.
