From Landscape
Following the success of the exhibition Focus on Drawing in 2001,
curator Jim Savage has assembled a touring exhibition From Landscape
an exhibition of 29 large-scale landscape drawings by artists working
in Ireland today. The aims of the exhibition are two-fold: to propose
the enduring relevance of landscape imagery by exploring its current
contemporary diversity; and equally to celebrate and encourage that
most primal quality of all art practices: Drawing. Artists featured
include John Shinnors, Stephen McKenna, Jill Dennis, Barrie Cooke,

THE ART OF LOOKING
The University College Cork has built up a significant collection of
Irish art over the past twenty years. These artworks are sited around
campus to raise awareness among students and the academic community
of the value of visual culture. The Art of Looking celebrates the
significant resource that the collection now represents. The
exhibition includes the most recent addition to the collection by
Paul Seawright, alongside other works by artists Tony O’Malley,
Hughie O’Donoghue, Alice Maher, Basil Blackshaw and Barrie Cooke.

An exhibition of photographs by Reiner Riedler. The Possibility of An
Island is a collection of past work by Reiner Riedler that capture
moments of quirky calm amidst the backdrop of work a day world chaos,

Jeremiah Day
American artist Jeremiah Day will present a talk ‘From Manet to
Fugazi - Artists’ Self Organising’ as well as a screening of sections
of the Fugazi documentary ‘Instrument’. 6 - 8pm, April 7 @ Unitarian
Church, Princes Street, Cork. Jeremiah Day Workshops: ‘D.I.Y -
Artists’ Self Organising in the Public Realm’ These workshops arise
out of Jeremiah Day’s first visit to Cork in 2005. He will present
two workshops on this topic in Cork on April 6 - 9 and May 4 - 7.

“untitled”
Photography by two emerging artists: Kieran Tobin and Lorna Murphy.
Kieran studied photography at St Johns’ College, where he currently
works as a darkroom technician. As a photographer, he covers a broad
range of speacialist genres, including dance, art events and
festivals. Within social issues Kieran has created work based around
traumatic events and personal anxiety. This current work involves the
manipulation of colour printing, including the use of filters treated
with oil paints and pastels. Through this new process he introduces a
unique narative element into his protraits. Lorna also specializes in

of Gold
Adapted from the novel by James Stephen. A vibrant and joyful new
adaptation of this classic Irish comedy which asks the fundamental

BUGSY MALONE
Written by award winning director Alan Parker, Bugsy Malone is a
rollicking musical spoof of the dirty thirties. With a cast of over

cartoon cut-outs; and the weapons of choice are “splurge” whip cream

Frank Pig Says Hello
Granary Rehearsed Readings. By Patrick McCabe. First produced in
1992, McCabe’s adaptation of his own novel ‘The Butcher Boy’ was a
phenomenal success, and has since been recognised as a hugely
important and influential work in the context of contemporary Irish
theatre. A grotesque mixture of story-telling and role-play, this
darkly comic tale has established itself as one of the most memorable
narratives of modern Irish writing (and indeed performance). All
readings take place in the Granary Studio at 6pm. Attendance is free

Many Young Men of twenty
John B. Keane’s brilliant musical play deals with those forced by

LIFEBOAT
Directed by Belinda Wild. Written by Nicola McCartney. An
extraordinary true story of courage, survival and enduring
friendship. On Friday the 13th of September 1940, a ship, the City of
Benares, set sail from Liverpool for Canada. On board were ninety
young evacuees escaping the relentless bombing and dangers of war-
torn Britain. Four days into the crossing the ship was torpedoed by a
German submarine, and sank. Only eleven of the evacuees survived. Two
girls, Bess Walder and Beth Cummings, spent 19 terrifying hours in
the water clinging to an upturned lifeboat. They willed each other to

Cork Lifelong Learning Festival
This unique festival brings together a huge range of learning
organisations catering for all ages and interests. During the
festival over 150 free events take place across the city -
demonstrations, tours, introductory classes, exhibitions, information
sessions, seminars, workshops and talks. The emphasis is on fun with
plenty of opportunities for the public not just to watch but also to

World Book Festival
The festival will be marked by free events on Grand Parade, in the
City Library, Bishop Lucey Park, and Triskel . The project is a
collaboration between Cork City Libraries, Triskel, Munster
Literature Centre, and Tigh Fili Arts Centre. Round-the-clock
readings will take place, for children and adults, by well known
authors and poets including Paul Durcan, Rita Ann Higgins, Rommi
Smith, Christy Kenneally, William Wall, Mary Leland, Louis de Paor,
Conal Creedon, Stephen Boyd, as well as new Cork writers under the
banner ‘New Voices’. Features of the Festival: Cork’s well known
Farmers markets will serve world-renowned cuisine on Grand Parade •
Book stalls will be set up on Grand Parade • The Central Library will
stay open from 9.30am on Saturday 22nd April to ca 2.30 am on Sunday
23rd • The evening readings (starting at 8.00) at the Central Library
will feature William Wall and Mary Leland • There will be street
performers, storytellers, poetry workshops and other kids activities
by Tigh Filí in Bishop Lucey Park. Cork City.

The Cork International Choral Festival will run for five days in
